WHY USE A DUTCH OVEN?
Learning how to bake bread with enough steam in a domestic oven is the first challenge for a home baker when embarking on their bread journey. A Dutch oven, which is a pot made entirely of cast iron allows for enough heat & steam to replicate a commercial bread oven environment & so is the preferred method when making bread at home.
How it works
During the initial stages of baking, steam is released inside the chamber of a Dutch oven (sealed by a lid), this keeps the dough moist allowing the bread to develop a crispy, shiny crust and attain maximal volume.
Our bread specific Dutch ovens are perfect for baking bread & gives perfect results every time.

I got the basic sourdough set because I was having trouble getting my starter to rise which I did from scratch. Still struggling to get my starter to double every 8 hours even with the starter from here. But determined to make it work.
Hi Steph, that's no good it should be performing better than that. We'll post a new starter to you today. Please head over to our support group and post a photo of your starter & our team can do some trouble shooting.
Impressed with the quality of your products! Will make a great present for new novice home baker.
I purchased the sourdough mate starter kit after attempting (and failing miserably) to do it myself. Seriously, this was the best decision I have ever made. Each loaf I've made with the kit so far has been perfect! I have to make at least 2 loaves at a time because the kids take care of one full loaf straight out of the oven.
This kit helped me get up and running with making my own sourdough and didn't include a bunch of items I didn't need. Everything is good quality and the online resources are very helpful. Fast delivery.
My kit was bought as a gift. I have failed too may times trying to make my own starter but this kit was amazing with a very strong starter. I am now baking fresh sourdough twice a week!
