Killed your starter or need to begin again? Whether you’d like a backup on hand or want to get an active starter going quickly, our dehydrated starter flakes are the perfect solution — easy to revive and ready to bake in 1-2 days.
Once activated your starter will stay alive for as long as you feed & look after it.
Simply add water & mix with our White Gluten-Free Bread Flour or Wholemeal Gluten-Free Bread Flour, wait 1-2 days and start using your active starter to make sourdough using one our simple GF sourdough recipes.
Please note: We don’t recommend feeding with highly processed gluten-free flours containing additives (emulsifiers or raising agents), as they won’t properly nourish your starter. For best results, use our White Gluten-Free Bread Flour or choose our Complete Gluten-Free Sourdough Kit for all the flour and tools you need.

I've been making gluten sourdough for many years (taught by Yoke Mardewi in Perth around 2010) and have been experimenting with gluten free to bake for a friend who is coeliac. My husband and I have found that the gluten free bread is kinder to our tummies and so most of the bread I now bake is gluten free. While initially daunting, I have found with the right ingredients (thanks to Sourdough Mate) and brilliant recipes and videos (also Sourdough Mate), my process is simple and my outcomes excellent - visually and definitely in the taste department.
Received product in good time and the flakes were bubbling out of the jar in 36 hours
I have so enjoyed making and then eating the delicious GF loaves from the GF Gift Pack given to to me by my daughter and son-in-law at Christmas. So much yummier than supermarket bread.

I followed the instructions but ended up with a lump. Not even like the pictures show. I added a tiny bit more water and it went to mush. Trying to get it back to what it should have looked like in the first place but not having much luck. Will keep trying :) Great product though. Found the two packets had different amounts in them so that could have been a factor too.

These flakes are outstanding and so easy to reactivate! Fed them as directed and baking my first GF sourdough loaf within a couple of days. It turned out great and the starter is nice and active. I was putting off the process of making GF sourdough due to the time and effort in making starter from scratch, but using the Sourdough Mate GF starter flakes made the whole process incredibly easy and foolproof. Delighted with the end results and the support offered online with recipes and advice. Would highly recommend this product!
Fantastic, my starter was ready to use within a few days and was noticeably stronger structurally. Helps give it a really nice tangy aroma too. Definitely recommend using this if you want a no fuss starter ready to go quickly.
Purchased GF flour and starter flakes easy to use instructions and activated starter soon after to bake fabulous GF bread. My daughter diagnosed with Coeliac Disease some 30 years ago says its the best bread she has ever tasted.
The instructions have been very straight forward and within a couple of days of reviving the starter I made my first gluten free loaf. It was amazing!
