FAQs & Troubleshooting
❓ No signs of activity after 3–4 days?
Feed your starter again with 40g flour + 40g water, mix well, and let it rest.
- Keep it somewhere warm — ideally around 24°C.
- Check for activity after 4–6 hours (wait longer if your room is cooler).

💧 What type of water should I use?
Tap water is fine — as long as it’s drinkable and not high in chlorine.
- If you’re unsure, leave a jug of tap water on the counter overnight to let chlorine evaporate.
- You can also use filtered water.
❄️ What if my room is too cold?
Cool temperatures slow starter growth. Try these tips:
- Place the jar in your oven with the light on.
- Add a bowl of hot water to gently warm the space.
- Use a seedling heat mat or similar warming pad.
🔥 Tip: Don’t exceed 58°C — too much heat can kill your starter.
😷 My starter has mould or smells off — can I save it?
If your starter has visible mould or a bad smell, it’s safest to discard it.
- You can purchase a new starter from our store.
To prevent this in future:
- Store your starter in the fridge (in an airtight jar).
- Feed or use it once a week to keep it healthy.
