Single-origin Foster wheat, stoneground with the whole grain intact

Experience Foster heritage wheat in its wholegrain form. This certified organic flour is made from the same single-origin Foster wheat grown by Murphy Farming in Central Queensland, but stoneground with the entire grain intact.

Stoneground milling retains the bran, germ and endosperm, creating a naturally wholesome flour with a richer flavour, deeper grain character and more substantial texture than the white Foster flour.

It’s an excellent choice for bakers who want to bring more wholegrain flavour and texture to their sourdough while still enjoying the distinctive qualities of Foster wheat.

Why bakers love it:

  • 100% wholegrain Foster wheat — the same heritage wheat Foster grain.
  • Single-origin grain — grown on one farm rather than blended from multiple sources.
  • Stoneground — the whole grain is milled together, retaining the bran and germ.
  • Rich, nutty flavour — adds depth and complexity to sourdough.
  • More substantial texture — creates a hearty, rustic character in the finished loaf.
  • Ideal for sourdough — use on its own or blend with white flour for a lighter crumb.
  • Certified organic — made from organically grown Australian wheat.

For a lighter, more open loaf, try blending it with Organic Foster Heritage Wheat White Flour. For a more rustic wholegrain loaf, use a higher percentage of Foster Wholegrain and let its distinctive flavour shine.

Perfect for

  • Wholemeal Bread
  • Wholemeal Sourdough
  • Pizza bases
  • Focaccia
  • Pastries
  • Everyday baking

What is Foster wheat?

Foster is an Australian heritage wheat variety developed in Queensland through traditional plant breeding. It is one of a small number of older wheat varieties still grown commercially today.

For bakers, Foster offers the opportunity to work with a wheat that brings a distinctive character to the finished loaf, adding depth of flavour and a connection to Australia’s agricultural heritage.

What is heritage wheat?

Heritage wheat refers to older wheat varieties that were grown before many of today’s modern commercial varieties were developed. These grains are valued for their agricultural history, genetic diversity and unique baking characteristics.

Choosing a heritage wheat like Foster gives you more than just flour — it brings distinctive grain character and flavour to your baking, while supporting the continued cultivation of these traditional Australian varieties.

About the farmer

This wheat is grown by Paul and Cherry Murphy near Capella in Central Queensland. Passionate advocates for heritage grains, they have played an important role in preserving Foster wheat and keeping it in cultivation for future generations.

Their farm combines certified organic practices with a commitment to growing older wheat varieties that might otherwise have disappeared from Australian agriculture.
